Breaking News: Rowdy Session As Senate Rejects Special Status For Lagos

The Senate in a rowdy session on Wednesday has rejected the bill sponsored by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, seeking special fund for Lagos.
The bill had sought to get the Federal Government to recognize Lagos as the country’s commercial capital, which was entitled to one per cent of the nation’s revenue. But it was rejected by the lawmakers.

The  Chief Whip, Sen. Olusola Adeyeye, one of the the backers of the bill, had asked why Abuja was being subsidised by the Federal Government, whereas taxes were being paid for same government services in Lagos.
He also could not understand why some northern states, which banned alcohol consumption, were benefiting from the revenue from the VAT paid on alcohol consumed in Lagos and other parts of the country.
But he angered some fellow lawmakers when he described Abuja as a “rotten pampered child”. He was forced to withdraw the comment stby deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary.
However, already several angry Senators had stormed the floor, and shouting match began.
