Photos/Video: Twitter Explodes As Nicola Sturgeon Just Announced a Second Scottish Independence Referendum

This afternoon, the inevitable happened.  Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced that the Scottish government would hold a second independence referendum. 

Sturgeon said in her speech that the UK government had been less than cooperative when it came to dealing with the Scottish government on Brexit and the terms of Article 50.  She remarked:

If Scotland can be ignored on an issue as important as the EU and the single market then it is clear that our voice can be ignored at any time and on any issue.

Sturgeon explained to the press that the second independence vote would take place after the terms of Brexit had become clearer, but before Scotland became locked into a departure from the European Union. Scottish Twitter promptly exploded after the announcement.

A huge proportion of the Scottish Twittersphere were pleased with the prospect:
